7 questions to create your promo strategy

Even if you do it every day for clients, creating a strategy for yourself is one of the hardest things to do as a freelancer. You have the curse of knowledge. You know too much about your situation and the possibilities seem endless!

But don’t worry, I’m here to help with 7 questions to create your promo strategy. Answer them all and you’ll be on your way to creating a strategy you can implement today 😀

1. What are you trying to do?
Set short term aims that you can quickly action with the time, money and skills you have available

Plan for next 3–6 months – be outlandish if you want, you’re going to create the strategy to achieve whatever you choose.

2. What are you selling?
You’re experienced, you know your skills and how you work. You know what you can create and how you want to design.

Define what you’re selling and what value it brings to the kind of client you want to work with.

3. Who are you selling to?
Who needs what you have or has a need you can fill? Who are they?
No but really, who are they? What most important to them?
What do they do for a living?
What are their needs and aspirations?
Where do they get their info?
How can you meet them? Know them like you’re introducing your new partner to your family.

4. Why should they care?
You can craft the perfect strategy but if your message is poop, you won’t convert.
What’s the value you’ll deliver for them specifically?
What’s so special about the experience and the outcome you give them?
What do they need to know to buy your service?
How do they describe the problem their having?
Then write your messages in language the client will understand, so you’re talking to them in a way they can relate to.

5. When are you gonna tell them?
Use the time, money and skills you have available to create the best way to deliver your message.
Knowing your target audience, when do they need the service you’re selling?
Where will they be?
What would make them pay attention to you over other people offering the same service?
When you tell them

6. How you gonna say it?
Now get creative!
Do what you’ve done for so many clients and create and interesting, engaging way to share your message with potential clients
Is it video, audio, digital design, face to face, podcasts or something totally new?
Do your thing, work your magic

7. What do you want them to do next?
Define the next step you want them to make
Is it to enquire? Go to your website? Share your work? Refer you to a colleague?
Whatever it is, make it measurable so you can see how successful your strategy is and if you need to refine it
